About Airforce ABU
Launched in 2007, the Airman Battle Uniform (ABU) was the standard combat uniform for the U.S. Air Force and Space Force until April 2021. Replacing the Battle Dress Uniform and Desert Camouflage Uniform, the ABU featured a digital tiger-stripe pattern with a color scheme of blue/gray, similar to the Universal Camouflage Pattern but with added slate blue tones.
Made from a nylon-cotton blend, the ABU maintained the cut of the Battle Dress Uniform. It was designed for utility and comfort in various operational environments. In 2018, the transition began to the Operational Camouflage Pattern (OCP), and by 1 October 2019, all airmen were authorized to wear OCP.
