The creation of the ALICE (All-Purpose Lightweight Individual Carrying Equipment) pack began during the Vietnam war and is still in limited military use today. At the time of development and issue into the US Military forces, this butt pack was an integral component of a system that represented improved durability, better weather resistance and more carrying capacity in a lighter, stronger design using the best materials and construction.
